SABRE is an exciting programme of research into ethnic group differences in the causes of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. SABRE will also help us to understand what sort of treatments and preventive measures are best for people of different ethnicities.

SABRE is funded by two registered charities, the Wellcome Trust and British Heart Foundation. The study will be carried out by doctors, nurses and researchers from Imperial College London who are working closely with other research groups in Cambridge, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Oxford and Seattle (USA).

SABRE will start in 2008 and end in 2012. You can find out more about the SABRE Study by clicking on the links at the side of this web-page.

The video news clip is taken from a BBC London News broadcast of July 17th 2008 and gives an idea of the background to the SABRE Study. Two of our study participants kindly agreed to be filmed undergoing some of the tests and talking about their experiences.

You can also read about the study in the St Mary’s Hospital fortnightly newspaper, 360°.
