What is SABRE?

The Southall And Brent REvisited Study (SABRE) is a medical research study involving nearly 5000 European, Indian Asian and African Caribbean men and women. SABRE is funded by two registered charities, the Wellcome Trust and British Heart Foundation and is run by a team based at Imperial College London with support from experts at the Universities of Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Newcastle, Oxford and Washington (Seattle, USA).

What next?

We hope to invite families (partners, children and grandchildren) of the original SABRE participants to take part in SABRE 3G.  We will see how the first generation’s ancestry and experiences affect future generations, most of whom were born and brought up in the UK.  We will study what predicts healthy ageing and examine the effects of ageing on brain function.  Finally we will create a resource of data, and a group of very special research volunteers, who would be willing to help out with other research studies (if they choose).
